abstract = {Die Corona-Pandemie führte in Bibliotheken nicht nur zu massiven Umstellungen hinsichtlich digitaler Angebote, auch der Publikumsverkehr ist im Zuge der Wiedereröffnung durch Regelungen neugestaltet. In diesem Zusammenhang müssen einerseits ministerielle Vorgaben zur Nachverfolgung von potentiellen Kontakten beachtet werden und andererseits datenschutzrechtliche Belange. Auch die unkomplizierte Nutzung und zugleich schnelle Erfassung spielen eine hohe Priorität im Kontext eines kontaktarmen, aber durchsatzstarken Betriebes. An der Universitätsbibliothek Magdeburg wurde hier eine Lösung entwickelt, die viele Anforderungen ohne zusätzlichen Ressourceneinsatz abdeckt und zugleich zur Nachnutzung in anderen Einrichtungen zur Verfügung steht. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden die Anforderungen kurz dargestellt, die im agilen Projektmanagement entwickelte Software beschrieben und Potentiale für eine Nach- und Weiternutzung aufgrund der ersten Betriebserfahrungen aufgezeigt.},

In diesem Beitrag werden die grundsätzlichen Rollen und Aufgaben von Data Librarians erläutert und ihr spezifischer Einsatz im Rahmen des BMBF-Forschungsprojekts DiP-iT aufgezeigt. Ausgehend von einer gemeinsamen Verständigungsebene in Form eines Dateninterviews wurden fachspezifische Konzepte für die Learning Analytics in den Bereichen Datendokumentation, -kuration und -organisation entwickelt. Ergebnisse sind ein Datentransfermodell, das die Speicherung der Daten in verschiedenen Domänen unter Einbezug datenschutzrechtlicher Rahmenbedingungen ermöglicht, und die detaillierte und fachspezifische Dokumentation der Daten anhand eines Learning Analytics Metadatenmodells.},

Enterprises still need a seamless process from idea initiation till its implementation and improvement. The gap exists between the research and its application in an enterprise. Organization need to streamline their processes for Digitalization. In this paper, we provide an analytical framework for analysis and improvement of business processes. We also propose an analytical process modelling language to support the framework and to identify the deficiencies in processes. We also provide constructs and patterns of our proposed modeling language which are independent of a specific modeling language. abstract = {Efficient evaluation of selection predicates (e.g., range predicates) defined on multiple columns of the same table is a difficult, but nevertheless important task. As we have seen an enormous increase of data within the last decade, efficient multi-dimensional selection predicate evaluation becomes more important. This is especially important for scientific data management tasks, where we often face data sets that need to be filtered based on several dimensions. So far, the state-of-the-art solution strategy is to apply highly optimized sequential scans. However, the intermediate results are often large, while the final query result often only contains a small fraction of the data set. This is due to the combined selectivity of all predicates. We propose Elf - a new tree-based approach to efficiently support such queries. Our structure indexes densely populated sub-spaces allowing for efficient pruning.},

abstract = {Nowadays, biometric data are more and more used within authentication processes. Such data are usually stored in databases and underlie inherent privacy concerns. Therefore, special attention should be paid to their handling. We propose an extension to an existing privacy preserving similarity verification system. The Paillier scheme, being an asymmetric as well as additive homomorphic cryptography approach, enables signal processing in the encrypted domain operations. Amongst other modifications, we introduce a padding approach to increase entropy for better filling the co-domain. As a result, we combine the benefits of signal processing in the encrypted domain with the advantages of salting. The concept of verification of encrypted biometric data comes at the cost of increased computational effort in contrast to already available biometric systems. Nevertheless, this additional cost is in many scenarios justified by addressing that most currently available biometric authentication systems lack sufficient privacy protection. In our evaluation, we focus on performance issues of the privacy-preserving biometric authentication scheme with respect to database response time. The results presented for different evaluations on the influence of numbers of users, template sizes, and cryptographic key lengths show that the increase in effort required caused by our extensions is negligible. Furthermore, our improved scheme lowers the error rates attached as well as it reduces the amount of data that is disclosed in an authentication attempt. Our work highlights that user- and privacy-centric approaches to authentication have become feasible in the last few years. Modern schemes, as the one discussed in this paper, are not only efficient but also make the usage of data mining techniques in the domain of user tracking much more difficult.},

abstract = {The increasing amount of complex data requires a solution to store and query these data efficiently. One possibility to speed-up various query types is the application of high dimensional index structures. In prior work, we introduced QuEval as platform to evaluate these indexes for user-defined use cases. Our design allows to easily extend QuEval with new index structure implementations. However, based on our experiences, we encountered severe challenges by tailoring index structure implementations to specific use cases. In particular, we face challenges to manage several similar implementation variants of the same index. In this paper, we consequently show benefits and drawbacks that emphasize the necessity to tailor index structure implementations with the help of a short evaluation study. Finally, we outline approaches for adequate variability management to address the aforementioned drawbacks.},

Application developers want to know on which framework elements their application is depending. Currently, programs need to be parsed to extract information about framework usage what consumes time and effort and makes information mining inflexible. Hypermodelling utilizes Data Warehouse technologies for source code investigations to overcome the current limitations. In this paper, we demonstrate that Hypermodelling is suitable to explore software variance. We present reports based on real application data of one project example to reveal multiple facts about the software variance. We show visualizations at different granularity levels. abstract = {Nontraditional displays just started their triumph. In contrast to traditional displays, which are plane and rectangular, they do not only differ in design and architecture; they also implicate different semantics and pragmatics in the rendering pipeline. We strive for a generic solution that couples legacy applications with nontraditional displays. In this paper, we present an architecture and a respective experiment, which exposes a proprietary virtual reality software to a 360 degree virtual environment. Therefore we introduce a rigorous master-slave design. The proposed architecture requires discussion of the following details: how to access a proprietary application's OpenGL stream; how to transmit the OpenGL stream efficiently in a clustered rendering setup; how to process the OpenGL stream for adaption to nontraditional display semantics; and how to deal with the arising code complexity, withal. Our design decisions are highly interdependent. The presented architecture overcomes limitations, which were implied by client-server design in earlier work. The proposed rigorous master-slave design is totally transparent to the client software, and reduces interdependencies between rendering software and rendering clusters. Thus, it inherently reduces network round trips and promotes the use of scalable multicast. Our architecture is tested in a reproducible experiment, which provides a qualitative proof of concept.},

abstract = {Yet, persistence of redundant data in Data Warehouses is often simply justified with an achievement of better performance when accessing data for analysis and reporting. Especially in Enterprise Data Warehouse systems, data management via multiple persistence levels is necessary to condition the huge amount of data into an adequate format for its final usage. However, there are further reasons to store data persistently, which are often not recognized when designing such warehouses. As processing and maintenance of data is complex and requires huge effort, less redundancy will downsize effort. Latest in-memory technologies enable good response times for data access, so that the question arises, what data for what purposes really need to be stored persistently - and how can this be efficiently decided. We present a compendium of purposes for data persistence and use it as a basis for decisionmaking whether to store data or not. As an outlook, we expand this discussion on Enterprise Data Warehouses based on in-memory databases.},

abstract = {Complexity in Modeling and Development increases continuously. Subject of this paper is to show how developers of Computational Causal Behavior Models can be supported with a tool to improve the development process. Therefore, we analyze three case studies about probabilistic modeling of human behavior for activity recognition with respect to specific problems that might occur. We present a classification into five problem types that should be carefully considered in such projects. Finally, we present how tool support to increase the efficiency of developing Computational Causal Behavior Models might be created. In general, the paper provides useful guidelines for every model developer in the field of activity recognition, and highlights the need of tool support for such models.},

Dies wird am Beispiel des Service Level Management (SLM) und dem zur Überwachung und Auswertung erforderlichen Monitoring von Antwortzeiten demonstriert. Es wird gezeigt, dass dies eine Erweiterung der zentralen Bestandteile von SOA um ein zentrales Werkzeug für Monitoring und Reporting erforderlich macht. Ein solches Werkzeug muss unabhängig von den eingesetzten Services und z.B deren Technologie arbeiten, um beim Austausch von Services davon unbeeinträchtigt zu bleiben. Voraussetzung dafür ist die Standardisierung der zu überwachenden Kennzahlen und deren Messung. Einerseits kann dies unter Nutzung der bereits vorhandenen zentralen Bestandteile zentralen Services Service Bus und Service Repository erfolgen, andere erfordern zusätzliche nicht-funktionale Eigenschaften von Services.},

abstract = {Instrumentation of interfaces is a popular design pattern in engineering. Academic and industrial projects are already using instrumented OpenGL clients for various purposes. We perceive instrumentation of proprietary OpenGL applications as a basic technology to open up interactive three-dimensional graphics as a potent interoperability platform for heterogeneous simulation software in engineering. Hence, we describe and compare four instrumentation techniques on the MS Windows platform: relink library, dynamic library replacement, virtual display driver, and binary interception. We qualitatively evaluate them for four capabilities: to instrument proprietary simulation software; to instrument a subset only of the OpenGL interface; to instrument multiple interfaces simultaneously; and to chain intermediaries. The relink library technique is powerful, except that it cannot be used with proprietary simulation software. Dynamic library replacement and virtual display drivers potentially support all features, although some features are difficult to implement. The binary interception technique inherently supports all capabilities. We conclude with directions for future research.},

abstract = {Existing database management systems (DBMS) are complex and less predictable (i.e., the consistency of performance with the increase of functionality and the data growth is not certain). Database researchers acknowledge the need for revisiting DBMS architectures to fulfill the needs of new hardware and application trends. We propose a biologically inspired DBMS architecture called ”Cellular DBMS". The Cellular DBMS architecture promises development of highly customizable and autonomous DBMS. This paper explains in detail the design principles for Cellular DBMS architecture. It also explains an aspect-oriented programming based model to equip Cellular DBMS architecture with autonomy. Finally, it presents an extension to decomposed storage model (DSM) for use in Cellular DBMS.},

abstract = {Digital Engineering is an emerging research area uniting classical engineering and software engineering. This combined view is necessary because of growing complexity of products and processes. Although in the domain of classical engineering and software engineering many methodologies exist only a holistic approach is sufficiently targeting. Besides domain specific research interests, at the interface between both research areas, new challenges arise. These stimulating challenges offer an interesting potential for academic and industrial researchers. Digital Engineering is a young interdisciplinary domain to develop and improve products and processes in a holistic manner. A reduction of frictional losses between different involved partners, e.g., from classical and software engineering, includes consideration of system discontinuity, tool discontinuity, and domain discontinuity. For efficiency purposes, involved people, organization structures, and technics have to be considered carefully. Digital Engineering enables shortened development cycles, observation of quality requirements, and a reduction of cost. Therefore, Digital Engineering can be seen as computer-aided design, innovation, and optimization at the same time. The use of virtual and augmented reality is a main driver in this context due to the possibilities of controlling complexity of data, models, knowledge, methods, and tools.},
